The Appalachian Citizens’ Law Center is a nonprofit law firm that fights for justice in the coalfields by representing coal miners and their families on issues of black lung and mine safety and by working with grassroots groups and individuals to protect the land and people from misuse and degradation caused by extractive industries.

Mountain State Justice

Mountain State Justice provides aggressive legal advocacy on behalf of low-income West Virginians to ensure access to the civil justice system for the vindication and protection of their rights.

Legal Aid of WV

With over 100 full-time staff in 12 offices, Legal Aid of West Virginia is the state’s primary provider of civil legal aid and advocacy services. Their mission is to ensure that the most vulnerable citizens – low-income families, seniors, victims of domestic violence, the disabled – have an equal shot at justice, in the courtroom and in their communities.

WVSLA provides free civil legal services for senior West Virginians age 60 and over

Public Defender Services funds all indigent defense for the State of West Virginia.

WVU College of Law Center for Law and Public Service

The Center for Law and Public Service provides opportunities for students to engage in public interest law, fosters dialogue about current legal services and policy issues, and encourages students to become leaders who seek creative solutions toward achieving equal access to justice in society.

WVU College of Law Public Interest Advocates

The West Virginia University College of Law Public Interest Advocates exists to sponsor summer fellowships and other opportunities for WVU law students in the public interest field and to promote interest in public interest lawyering.
